"Yesterday morning, I was drumming to 'Wipe Out' and remembered when I discovered I could, a kid drumming on the wall super proud of myself and proud to show Mom. All the noise kids make, so often they're thinking about us, their parents and ones they respect. Running and jumping on walls, doing the obviously dangerous and insanely loud, they're excited for life and excited to show us. - A good part of the day was spent repairing the kitchen sink, which irritated me at first because of how exhausted I've been and needing to write [a writer who doesn't write is a terrible monster] but life never stops giving us repairs we can deal with and learn from. I called grandpa and had the simple, good, necessary conversations with family, the connection to who you are and how you grew up, who helped me along as he always has. Two of the kids helped me replace the faucet and laughed when I turned the water on before it was ready, making a momentary fountain. We got it fixed. Ensure you are intentionally teaching your kids as you go, as my grandpa always did and which I didn't always appreciate until I was a man, so they know what they'll need and know how to keep learning. When we ask them to help us, they are immediately much more interested and happy to give fully to a task than when ordering them. Sometimes, they need to do what they're told. Sometimes, they need to know we need them. - We went up the hill to look for the new comet, but didn't see it in the dusky twilight before having to return. We'll go out again when it's higher in the sky. We did see the International Space Station! It was amazing to imagine what is real; there are people up there, travelling in space, seeing us while we watch them pass above near in the sky to the biggest planet in our solar system which shone as the brightest and first star in the twilight. - My wife apologized for the failed exploration; but it wasn’t a failure, my sweet Khaleesi. We didn’t see what we went to watch, but we had fun and saw some other cool, unexpected ideas floating around through space!"
